Shearer was a cunt, as per usual.

Well we don't know where they'll end up - early days still. I think they'll recover to mid-table over the season.

I agree it's a problem of management, but I think they hired McLaren to operate essentially as a coach. I'm not sure what the setup is there, but clearly it's lacking. Maybe they needed a Pulis or dare I say an Allardyce if they need discipline instilled quickly.

Many clubs have those issues Alex, a good manager would make a difference.

All the pundits pre season were saying what a good app he was for Newcastle and that they'd be top 10 whilst we would struggle.

Early days but it's very gratifying watching these cunts choke on their words.

Agreed. That's his task now. Imo they looked solid in the first few matches. It's only now starting to look like a crisis.

I personally think it looks like problems there that a coach cannot feasibly solve. So McLaren will take the blame, get the sack at some point, and a new man will turn up and find he can't solve the problems in the short term either.

I'm sure if Pulis could turn the Berahino situation round then McClaren should be able to get his players sorted basic management surely and no excuses. Bilic sorted Amalfitano it is what you would expect.

Agree with all of that. To me it's yet another DoF issue - McLaren is probably finding out that some of his squad don't want to be there, but he's only been there a short time. A club needs a proper structure to provide the sort of continuity that can sort those sort of issues out in a pro-active way. Tbh I thought they had had an overhaul over the Summer but now it appears not.

Problems at Newcastle. Lack of youth (DoF issue), letting players fester (DoF issue), possible inbalance in makeup of squad (DoF issue), general lack of stability (DoF issue).

.....& Mclaren is a bang average manager in the same mould and about as likeable as Bruce.
Don't know how they both keep getting jobs.

Why did they not include Payet's long range effort?

The first highlight was of them winning a corner... and they included 10 seconds of Pelligrini standing on the touch line...why?!

Shearer is such a cunt. Didn't know what to say about us and could barely say a word. Clearly humiliated. When he did say a few words he sounded like Kermit the frog.

The coach has to mould the behaviour of the players. Or pick new ones. How many players do you reckon turn up dressed tuxedo's and greet Mourinho at the dressing room door? Or did with Ferguson.
Said after the Newcastle game that players like Cisse & Sissoko are talented but looked like players thinking about their next move. Most of the rest flitted around , passed the ball sideways and didn't look desperate to win for the shirt.
I don't know if McClaren is the one to turn that sort of situation.
If he loses to Sunderland he will be hanging by one of his flimsy flappy hairs.

I didn't say it wasn't down to the coach - I said I think too much is made of the coach sometimes.

Just been discussed on Sunday supplement - said there is poison in the dressing room and McLaren knows the problems but can't shift it until next transfer windows. Said Tiote has declared himself unfit but club can't find anything wrong with him. Pretty easy to work out that Cisse is also a troublemaker.

Alex v if you think it is not down to the coach you seriously need to take a look at yourself. You are quite mad another WHO gem

I did chuckle at the BBC editing of the Hughes and Walters interviews. Made Hughes look like a right moany old cunt (which he is).

I think the press only really want to talk about Payet at west ham.

Payet wasn't our best player yesterday so the pundits were struggling what to say

Re: Match of The Day running order (yes, we're top billing)
Well I'm saying he takes some blame, but shouldn't take all of it. Advocaat said very similar yesterday actually - he will look at himself and what he does, but he expects the players to do the same.

I would have thought that the scenario that Alex V paints of a talented squad under-performing lies fairly and squarely on the shoulders of the coach. It is his job to get them motivated, organised and prepared.

They looked hugely underprepared and unmotivated. You've got to put at least some of that down to the coach.

The guy turning up in a tux, McLaren grinning through his interview, all seems like one big joke up there. I wouldn't be laughing if he was in charge of us.

I don't think you can call McLaren a media favourite - they came close to destroying his career after brollygate, made him a laughing stock.

I think too much is made of the coach sometimes - Newcastle should not be struggling at all with that set of players. On paper their squad is top 8 potential imo. The coach will get the blame, but there's only so much he can do if they aren't fighting on the pitch.
